Bible Reading

This challenge is to encourage everyone, believers and non-believers, to familiarize themselves with Bible. Due to its difficulty for most of us to understand its language, the old Bible version, the King James Version, has kept many people from spending time in the Bible. There are now so many versions available that are written in reader-friendly language. There is even a comic version; this has lead many youth to the Bible! Too, there are versions made like magazines which can be very enjoyable when challenging ourselves to read when we're still in our 'pre-decision and/or infant stages' as baby Christians in Christianity. These are made for both males and females, and further for youths and adults. Bite size reading helps young Christians to read any genre so it certainly helps, at least when we're still trying to make it a daily part of who we are, as much as is possible. If you're at a 'pre-decision' point then why not get into the New Testament? If for no other reason take this challenge because of its many life lessons and principles to live by! Just give it 30 days; broaden your horizons... And see what happens!

How Do I Take This Challenge?

  1. Go find that awesome Bible version and format- the one that feels good to start with. I started with a youth Bible! For the next 30 days you'll want to understand what you read. Bibles can be borrowed at your local library. They're also available as eBooks, free mobile phone apps and audio versions.
  2. This tip is for those not so sure about reading the Bible; those that would like to know more but think it's all full of difficult reading; those who crave its life lessons; very new Christians. If you're feeling unsure-if you're even reading just for the life lessons and principles to live by-it's my PERSONAL opinion to start with Proverbs, Ephesians and Colossians. If you want to go right into learning about Jesus' life first then try starting with John in the New Testament. Most importantly, do it your way!
  3. Just read as much as you can/want to read. Don't put yourself on a plan just yet. Let your heart, mind and soul just 'feel'.
  4. After each reading, think about what you've read and what you can take away with you. A lesson? A promise? A principle? A wisdom?
  5. Highlight verses and anything that catches you. There are special highlighters and pencils for Bible to prevent damage and/or seepage of the medium.
  6. Just go with your gut because I can write tips all day but it IS THE BIBLE that will guide you. And the words in that Bible are God-inspired.
  7. Have fun and get your daily JOY!

Tips

Remember to not ever read one verse without reading it in its full context. That's where we goof up our understanding (ex, eye for an eye definitely doesn't apply now)!
